John KirklandDr John Kirkland OBE

Deputy Secretary General of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, as Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK, the Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission, and the Chevening Secretariat – the UK government’s three main international scholarship schemes

 

John has 25 years’ experience of higher education management at a senior level, in both developed and developing country contexts. John is a Visiting Professor at the University of the West of England, a Member of the Board of the University of London International Academy, and a Member of Brunel University Court. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2015 New Year Honours for services to international scholarships and Commonwealth universities. Prior to joining the ACU, John was Secretary of the UK National Institute for Economic and Social Research from 1994-1999, and Director of the Research Services Bureau at Brunel University from 1988-1994.

dr abdullahDr Abdullah Shams Bin Tariq

Professor, Department of Physics and Deputy Director, Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning, University Rajshahi, Bangladesh

Dr Abdullah Shams Bin Tariq is a member of the Global Young Academy, where he leads a Working Group on Global Access to Research Software and has also been a member of its Executive Committee for two terms. His first contact with INASP was in 2004 when he was in the UK studying for a PhD on a Commonwealth Scholarship. In Bangladesh, he has played a pioneering role in setting up a library consortium. He has volunteered to coordinate e-resource access, provide technical support and has trained several hundreds of library staff and users around the country. He will speak about the importance of publishers understanding the national context and how this affects their ability to offer on-going, sustainable access to e-resources.

Director, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research-Institute for Scientific and Technological Information (CSIR-INSTI), Ghana

Dr Joel Sam has been the Director of (CSIR-INSTI), Ghana since July 2010. Prior to his current position, Joel served as the Coordinator of the Ghana Agricultural Information Network System (GAINS). He is currently the key contact for INASP in Ghana and Country Coordinator for EIFL and also serves as the Chairperson of the Management Boards of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Ghana (CARLIGH) and the Ghana Information Network for Knowledge Sharing (GINKS).

Dr SophiaDr Sophia Kaane

Director of Library and Information Services, University of Nairobi, Kenya

Dr Sophia Kaane has an MA in Librarianship from the University of Sheffield and a PhD from the University of Loughborough. Dr. Kaane was formerly University Librarian at the United States International University in Kenya and has had a major role in the Kenya Library and Information Services Consortium for many years. Currently, she chairs the consortium and will be speaking about the value of publishers consulting with consortia to plan for medium to long term access to resources and moving at a pace which supports and can be matched by strategic planning within the consortium.

Jonathan WynneJonathan Wynne

Sales Director, International Development, Wiley

Jonathan Wynne is Sales Director, International Development at Wiley, which combines responsibility for sales teams covering Central/Eastern Europe, Middle East, Central Asia and Africa with work on other initiatives that help Wiley link better with emerging countries. Previously he was EMEA Sales Director for Institutional Sales in the Wiley-Blackwell part of Wiley. Prior to joining Wiley in 2005, Jonathan has since 1985 held various sales and management positions at Reuters, ProQuest and CABI.

Olga MiddletonOlga Middleton

Director of Business Development, Elsevier BV

Olga is the Director of Business Development at Elsevier BV under research solutions sales division responsible for Africa, Middle East, Latin America and C&E Europe. Prior to joining Elsevier, she held various business development positions in global companies such as Philips BV and Intralox BV. She holds a MSc degree in Marketing and Management from Lodz University, Poland.

JHJonathan Harle

Senior Programme Manager, Research Access and Availability, INASP

Jon leads the work of INASP’s Research Access and Availability team, including the e-resource access and publisher relations components of its work, and the training we provide to library consortia and national access bodies. Jon has worked on the intersection of research, higher education and development for the last 7 years. Before joining INASP he worked for the Association of Commonwealth Universities. He has degrees in African politics and in archaeology and anthropology.
