Getting Research to Researchers in Developing Countries – Examples from East and Southern Africa

The complex picture of availability, access and use

The second annual PfD meeting was held at Charles Darwin House in London on Friday 2nd December. This date enabled representation from both UK and US publishers and encouraged attendance from publishing colleagues involved in strategic decisions, marketing and platform development. The conference themes were chosen to introduce some of the most pertinent topics for developing country librarians, researchers and the publishers cooperating with them:

  • Discovering and Accessing Research: Availability, awareness, searching and use
  • Research, Technology and Connectivity
  • Advocacy Matters: Developing relationships and understanding needs

Speakers included: Kondwani Wella (Kamuzu College of Nursing, Malawi); Judith Nannozi (Uganda Martyrs University); Agatha Kabugu (University of Nairobi); Siobhan Duvigneau (BLDS, Institute of Development Studies); colleagues from Aptivate; and Richard Gedye (STM Association).
